Having received a higher education, the young specialist was assigned to work at the Moscow Research Institute for Pipeline Construction. But very soon Arkady left there and began working on information processing technologies at the Institute of Control Problems of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

His entrepreneurial streak soon made itself known. In the late 80s, Volozh founded his first business – the Magistr cooperative, which dealt in barter transactions. The company exported agricultural products in exchange for computer equipment.
He spent the first money he earned from selling two computers on purchasing his own apartment in Moscow, where he moved to live with his family.
A little later in 1989, two overseas chinese in usa data companies, CompTek and Arcadia, emerged on the basis of Magistr. The first was engaged in automation of workplaces and supply of computers. And the Arcadia company, which was founded by Volozh together with Arkady Borkovsky, was engaged in development of innovative software.
Within the walls of Arcadia, a product for classifying inventions weighing about 10 megabytes was invented – the future prototype of Yandex algorithms. The program proved its effectiveness in leading research institutes and was used to analyze large volumes of data when searching for patents.

Arkady Volozh, like many entrepreneurs in the IT sector, is confident that the era of computerization and information technology is only at the beginning of its journey, and therefore has never regretted the choice of profession made in his youth.
