Gilles Marchand is popular in French-speaking Switzerland. Almost as popular as the public television and radio, of which Marchand is the head. But French-speaking Switzerland is small. And so the 54-year-old is making the next career leap: if the SRG has his way, he will become its general director by acclamation from autumn next year, replacing Roger de Weck.
At least, that's what the "NZZ am Sonntag" wrote three weeks ago. The report was never properly denied, nor confirmed, but - higher dialectics - this is proof that it is most likely true. The SRG iran rcs data only wrote that it had considered the successor to General Director de Weck, as he will reach retirement age in 2018. This is certainly not wrong, people always think about their future. This is what distinguishes them from animals.
Since then, it has been surprisingly quiet. Will Marchand come or not? And what will happen to Roger de Weck, the brilliant rhetorician? Will he stay in office for another year until Marchand has improved his German? The fact is that the whole revelation came at an inopportune time. Everyone seems to agree on this one point: despite SRG transparency, we have heard nothing from Marchand and de Weck on this topic.
Neither did Jean-Michel Cina, the newly elected president, nor Media Minister Doris Leuthard. And even the "NZZ am Sonntag" - quite decently - never really talked about its premiere again. That is true public service.
