In this small study, based on our click fraud investigation from summer 2011, I analyzed the invalid clicks from 14 of our Google AdWords customer accounts and compared the proportion of invalid clicks in the display network , remarketing campaigns, PLAs and Google search. We already noticed the higher proportion of invalid clicks in the display network in our 2011 study.

Click fraud more common in the Google Display Network than in Google Search
This confirms our suspicion that display network ads are more frequently affected by click fraud than ads in Google search. That is obvious.
Intention for invalid clicks in the display network
When it comes to ads in the display network, the site operators chile phone number data themselves have a monetary interest, as they earn money from clicks on ads on their own sites. These publishers earn money with Adsense advertising blocks on their own websites. In our opinion, there is a greater motivation for making invalid clicks here, due to the direct result that can be achieved.
Intention for invalid clicks in the search network
The reason why someone intentionally commits click fraud in the search network is because they want to harm potential competitors. This can result in daily budgets being reached quickly or the ROAS (Return on AdSpend) taking on negative values.
Click Fraud Investigation 2013
A lot has happened since 2011. PLAs have brought new ad variants, remarketing has brought new targeting options, and the display network is being used more intensively by advertisers. Reason enough for us to publish the results of a new study on the topic.
The basis was a total of 299,879 clicks in the display network , 21,521 clicks via remarketing campaigns , 42,654 clicks on product listing ads (PLAs) and 743,445 clicks via the search and advertising network. The period over which the data was collected was August 2012 to February 2013.
