When Windows 10 was released five years ago, the newly developed "Edge" browser was on board from the start. It succeeded the aging Internet Explorer. Old technologies such as ActiveX were thrown overboard and the EdgeHTML rendering engine ensured surprisingly fast browsing on the web and longer battery life while on the move. However, not all websites and online offers were fully compatible with the browser. Due to its initially rather small market share, it was neglected by many web designers. This is why Microsoft decided to scrap its own EdgeHTML engine and instead use the Chromium engine, which is also used in Google's Chrome browser. The same step was taken years ago with the Norwegian "Opera" browser, where the company also abandoned its own engine.
One advantage is that websites are displayed in the same rcs data spain way using the same rendering engine. This eliminates the need for annoying design adaptation to multiple web browsers. A disadvantage, however, is that almost all web browsers now use the Chromium engine and therefore there is less competition on the market than before. If you look at all popular web browsers, only Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari now use a different rendering engine. The new version of the Edge browser has been available to the general public since the beginning of 2020.
The new version and its handling appear to be much higher quality and more appealing. Incompatible websites are now a thing of the past and the design appears more sophisticated and moves away from the previous "flat" design. Until now, the installation of the new Edge had to be initiated manually, otherwise the previous version of the browser remained on the system. Since the release of the new Edge version, the browser has worked its way up to number 2 among the most popular web browsers worldwide in the desktop and laptop sectors (as of May 2020) .
It now follows directly behind Google Chrome - albeit by a large margin, as the Chrome browser is still the market leader. Mozilla Firefox was previously in second place, but has now slipped to third place. We are excited to see what happens next. Since the beginning of June, the new Edge has been gradually delivered via Windows Update. The old version is automatically replaced by the new one.
