Today, teenagers represent 17.5% of the world's population and spend more than 750 billion euros annually worldwide, 8 billion euros in Spain.
The study “Teens 2010: What today's teenagers are like and how their consumer habits will evolve”, carried out by Creafutur, delves into the definition of this teenager in 2010 and obtains a perspective of what the young consumer will be like in 2020.
And this is the future perspective:
» Young people will be recognized as teens until they are 35 years old. Today's teens are optimistic about the future and think they will be financially independent, but if things don't change, the majority of young adults in the 2020 period will still be living at home with their parents.
» They will continue to buy the same chinese overseas australia data things as today, with clothing and technology as the main categories, and there will be a need to finance services that will no longer be free in the future, such as health or education.
» They will spend more time on the Internet to socialize, entertain themselves and get information.
» Multitasking, which in 2010 was a way of consuming leisure, will become a form of employment in 2020, and will radically change the way young adults work.
» The relevance of brands for the teens of the future will remain intact, but as teenagers become young adults, brands will lose importance. Price will be the most important decision factor.
» They will increasingly stay at home, avoid going to places that involve extra consumption and socialise more through social networks.
» When it comes to shopping, the opinion of family and friends will continue to be very important, but comments from Internet users will be incorporated as a source of trust.
» Environmental awareness among teenagers increases with age. Young people feel responsible for the environment only when they feel responsible for all the other things in life, that is, when they become emancipated.
» They will be willing to share the use of some products, either for reasons of sustainability or to be able to access more expensive products. Cars, food and travel are the categories that they will consider most appropriate for sharing, and they will not want to do so with clothing or personal hygiene products. Spaniards and Mexicans, in 94% of cases, are the most willing to put this new model of ownership into practice.
» Young adults today spend more than 30 hours watching media, and it is expected that by 2020 this figure will rise to 40 hours a week. So far, the emergence of new media has not meant the disappearance of the old ones, but rather each one has taken on a specific role.
