If you had to explain to a little six-year-old what personal development is, what would you tell him? I'm sure you'll at least pause for a moment on this question. Personal development can be defined as a continuous process of learning to become the best version of ourselves - through setting short-term and long-term goals. Unfortunately, many of our goals and plans fell through the cracks due to unplanned events that befell us last year.

The times we are in are extremely difficult and challenging for some individuals, as some struggle with basic functioning in their daily lives. They don't know what to do and are easily influenced by anger, sadness, fear, guilt or disappointment. When it feels like "the world is against us", it can be very difficult to see beyond the moment we are in, let alone find the energy to do the things that usually make us happy.

Fortunately, there is always something we can do to not only feel better, but also to work on our personal development during this crazy time. Here are five concrete tips on what to do during difficult times:



Allow yourself to feel uncomfortable emotions

Choose one of them, close your eyes and visualize a picture of when you felt exactly that way. Allow that feeling to completely overwhelm you.



Meditate.
Even if you are not inclined to meditation, try it. Meditation helps us become aware of the power of the present moment, letting go of absolutely all the worries and unpleasant thoughts that are bothering us at that moment. I once read a saying that silence is our best teacher – there is some truth in that! Meditation helps us discover and explore a deeper level within ourselves, where we can truly connect with ourselves. Feel free to choose the type of meditation that suits you best – there are plenty of choices, and the effect achieved can be surprising!



Take care of yourself.
Never underestimate the power of taking care of yourself through proper nutrition, exercise, and quality sleep. While these can be challenging at this time, it's important to remember how much good they can do for both your physical and mental health. Fresh juices, light meals, and more short breaks can be a real boon to a body that's under high stress.
