Facebook is shutting down Places & Deals

Post by Bappy11 »

In addition to a number of changes to privacy settings (see below), Facebook also announced that it would be shutting down Places and Deals. You will still be able to check in to places, but other features (such as location-specific deals) will be gone. Facebook’s new vision for location means that it’s no longer just where you are that matters , but also where you’ve been and where you’re going.

Places is actually changing into 'nearby': the location that the content you share is about is becoming important, regardless of where you are at the time of sharing. So you can now give all status updates a location. For example, if you post a photo about Lowlands afterwards, you can add the location Biddinghuizen to it. That content is about that location, even if you are not there. So you can also collect and view all content about a certain location and see what Facebook users are doing anywhere in the world.

End of Deals
Facebook has also decided to shut down its four-month-old Deals service. A Facebook india phone number list spokesperson explained: “After testing Deals for four months, we’ve decided to shut it down over the next few weeks. We still think the social approach to driving people to local businesses is incredibly powerful. We’ve learned a lot from our testing and will continue to test and develop.” The product, which launched in late April, was an attempt to bring popular daily deals (like those on Groupon) to Facebook. However, the daily deals market is becoming increasingly competitive, and many are questioning whether the business model is even viable, given Groupon’s financial woes.
