The development of Google

Post by Bappy11 »

Social Media is increasingly becoming an overarching structure, rather than a collection of separate platforms. This becomes clear during the bimonthly Search Marketing Thursday, a seminar on search engine marketing, where the focus is on Google+ and Social Search.

Bas van den Beld , Search and Social Marketing expert, presents his vision on Social Search, zooming in on Google. He shows how the Google results page has developed over the years from showing purely search results to the extensive and personalized results we know today; including images, products, videos and now also recommendations from people in your (Google) network. Van den Beld explains the reason behind adding these recommendations by drawing a parallel with the movie 'The Joneses'.

This film is about a family that seems to have everything: they are rich, live in a australia phone number list big house, have popular children and nice things. However, it turns out not to be a real family, but a handy marketing trick to make the neighbors want the same lifestyle and thus be able to sell products. Van den Beld indicates that this principle – that you simply want to have what the other has – also applies on the internet. And that Google plays on this further with Google+ (and Search, plus Your World ): what people in my network read, buy or use, I want myself too.
