It vibrates, it pings, it beeps: Anyone who uses a smartphone or cell phone in Germany receives an average of 13 text messages per day. This is the result of a survey conducted by the digital association Bitkom among 1,005 people in Germany aged 16 and over. According to the survey, all cell phone/smartphone users in Germany over the age of 16 receive more than 810 million text messages every day, and this figure is expected to rise to 300 billion in 2021 as a whole. According to Bitkom surveys, 88 percent of people over the age of 16 own a smartphone or conventional cell phone - that's around 61 million people.

Only 9 percent of this age group say they receive 10 or fewer messages via SMS, WhatsApp , Signal, etc. For 51 percent, the number is between 10 and 20, and a third (35 percent) even receive more than 20 text messages per day. 30 to 49 year olds receive an average of 15 text messages per day, and 50 to 64 year olds receive an SMS or messenger message 11 times per day. Seniors over 65 receive the fewest text messages: an average of 9 per day.
