SPOOFING: WHAT TYPES ARE THERE AND HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

Post by monira444 »

The Internet offers a whole world of possibilities and facilities. Therefore, since it is a complete and diverse content platform, it deserves attention and care with security.

There are many malicious individuals who look for loopholes in websites and profiles to gain advantages, steal data and even extort a lot of money. And one of the practices that is becoming increasingly common is SPOOFING.

What is spoofing?

This is a practice that uses techniques that bypass security measures to steal sensitive data and gain access to important information and even bank accounts.

We can highlight three forms of spoofing:

IP spoofing, where addresses are exchanged for another reliable source;

home and website pages using the real website layout bc data redirecting visitors to a malicious page;

and, mainly, emails.
The latter is common and used by criminals who mask the sender fields of an email, making the recipient think that someone else sent it.

In this email, the forger claims that he or she has hacked the bank account, email account, or other sensitive data of the person or company and demands a ransom for the information or to do nothing with what he or she has. This is when the extortion is carried out.

However, although it may seem real, that the email and account have been hacked, it is just a simulation, and the perpetrator has not even come close to the information.

How to protect yourself?

- The first step is to be careful with the emails you receive, and do not respond to any that ask for account or login information , especially if the request is not standard.

- Regarding websites, it is important to be aware of any changes in the appearance of the pages, even if they are trustworthy. This could be an indication of falsification.

- Another important tip is to always change your passwords every 6 months and never download any type of file that comes from unknown emails or at the request of websites.

- However, always keeping an antivirus updated is essential to prevent this type of attack.

And of course, having the guidance of a specialist team to indicate good practices, to always keep the equipment protected, including servers and email accounts.
