She was Councillor for the Environment in Vitoria when the city was awarded the title of “European Green Capital” and advises the Basque Government on environmental issues. In 2012, Alba Cañadas Mora left politics to run her own consultancy, “Desarrolla Sostenible”, where she collaborates with rcs data singapore and town councils that do not have the human resources or sufficient knowledge to address environmental and sustainability issues. Speaking to the Adecco Blog, Alba tells us about the reality of this sector in Spain and the challenges facing future professionals.
When and how did you start getting involved in environmental issues?
Thinking back to the question, I would say that I have always been attracted to nature and concerned about these issues. Since I was a child, I have been sensitive to these issues. I immediately knew that I wanted to be a biologist, but I was not so sure about which field to specialize in because all areas attracted me. My first professional experiences were related to Development Cooperation in Peru and later with wastewater treatment. Little by little I have been moving towards the environment and sustainable development.
What is “Sustainable Development” and how did it come about?
At “Desarrolla Sostenible” we collaborate with companies and town councils that do not have the human resources or sufficient knowledge to address environmental and sustainability issues. After my experience in public administration, first as Councillor for the Environment in Vitoria-Gasteiz and then as an advisor to the Minister for the Environment of the Basque Government, I learned about the reality of this type of public and private entities and their needs in this regard. I decided to leave my time in politics aside and focus on my professional career, being able to contribute to society everything I have learned. This has allowed me to link my two great passions, which are the environment and development.
