Detailed Targeting on Facebook

Post by monira444 »

There are two types of targeting in Facebook advertising: broad and detailed.

Broad - when you set the basic parameters of the audience: gender, age and location. The rest is done for you by automatic algorithms - they find in the general mass of users those who are highly likely to click on your ad, and show ads to them.

Detailed — when you set all the characteristics of the audience yourself: not only the location, but also interests, smartphone operating system, frequency of travel to other countries, and so on. Detailed targeting on Facebook shows itself well if you use it to promote products with a narrow target audience. For example, showing an ad for a remedy for joint pain to people over 50 who are already experiencing discomfort.

Detailed targeting can be set up when creating or editing a instagram data campaign, in the Audience section. Created audiences can be saved to use them later in other campaigns. When using detailed targeting, you can both reach people and exclude them - do not show ads to users with Linux OS.

Types of detailed targeting
Facebook's detailed targeting expansion allows you to use three broad categories of targeting: demographics, interests, and behavior.

Demographic interests
A large group that includes settings for parameters such as education, marital status, and others. Facebook collects this data from user profiles, and provides some characteristics based on their behavior.

Within the demographic interests, specific categories are available:

Education : level of education, field of study, educational institutions, years of the last course. You can select those who studied at a specific university, who received a doctorate, or those who will graduate next year.
Finance : This category is relevant to a US audience because it allows you to select people who are in the top 10% or top 50% of household income.
Life events : recently in a relationship, away from home or family, long distance relationship. Facebook pulls data from the profile: for example, if a person has provided details about relationships within the last 6 months, they fall into the “newly in a relationship” category.
Parents : One of the most popular categories for detailed targeting on Facebook, allowing you to target parents of teens, infants, or 1-2 year olds.
Marital status . Here you can choose not only the standard "Divorced" and "Married", but also more specific categories such as "Domestic partnership" or "Separated".
Jobs : employers, industry, positions. You can select all employees of a company or those who work in the beauty or insurance industry.

Interests
A category that includes all the interests that users have indicated. They add them to their profile either when they first register on Facebook or when they edit their account in an attempt to improve the social network's recommendation system.
