María José Cuetos , Professor in the Department of Occupational Risk Prevention (PRL) , Environment and New Technologies at Bureau Veritas Training .
On Thursday, November 8, the Occupational Risk Prevention (PRL), Environment and New Technologies area received the Award in the Category of Work in Occupational Health and Risk Prevention 2018 at the Third National Congress on Occupational Health and Risk Prevention, organized in Madrid by the Spanish Society of Health and Safety at Work (SESST).
The award was granted for the scientific project presented and tutored by Professor María José Cuetos of Bureau Veritas Formación , and prepared by the student Andrés Bonilla , as a face-to-face practical chinese america data work for the Master's Degree in Occupational Risk Prevention, Excellence, Environment and Corporate Responsibility , also advised by Pedro Antonio Martín, Managing Director of Ilunion recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) .
This Ilunion line has a plant located in La Bañeza (León) and has the capacity to process 16,000 tonnes per year .
Therefore, it is necessary to be rigorous with the labelling of waste generated in your processing plant and, specifically, with the safe identification of hazardous waste . In addition, updating the labelling of hazardous waste is necessary because much of the legislation on this issue was repealed as of June 2015.
The label is the most immediate information available about a waste , so it must be sufficiently explicit, specific and complete, covering information about its origin, destination, dangerousness, risks, handling advice and action in emergencies.
The objectives of the work
Update and label hazardous waste generated by Ilunion Reciclados , in accordance with current European and national legislation.
Develop a methodology for labeling hazardous waste in accordance with the specifications and origins of the waste generated in the company's processing plant.
To this end, a methodology was developed , based on four steps, for the labelling of hazardous waste , taking into account the guidelines of article 14 of Royal Decree 833/1988 and point 1.2 of annex 1 of Regulation EC 1272/2008 , which provides indications of the information that the label must bear and its dimensions, according to the capacity of the container that holds the waste.
Hazardous waste
During the project, labels were created for hazardous waste such as chlorinated mineral oils for insulation and heat transmission , absorbents and filter materials , capacitors with mercury , batteries and accumulators , Hg button cells , fluorescent tubes and lamps , Ni-Cd batteries and/or batteries , etc.
The state of aggregation of the polluting substances is decisive when obtaining the parameters and information on the label . During management treatment, storage conditions and the risk of exposure during recycling may change, giving rise to recovered material and inevitable waste.
The new regulations are more rigorous and it is therefore a priority to treat waste as if it were new products , requiring research into its original components and being even more precise about its characteristics , the risks it presents and advice on handling and action in emergencies .
