Experience of a Software Testing Course Graduate

Finding a job is never easy, especially when changing your professional field. Employers have high requirements, lack of experience, no motivation to do test tasks - these are the problems that newcomers face. For those who are actively looking, other paths open up. For example, an internship. We talked to our graduate, who shared her personal experience of finding a job.


Maria Soloshenko from Magnitogorsk completed the Software Tester course at Innopolis University and told us how to find an internship during her studies and get a job.


The girl had been working at a metallurgical plant for the past 10 years. In 2022, she decided to change her career vector and quit her job.
"I wanted to try myself in the IT field, I think this is the future. I worked in the quality department at a plant, and a software tester is a person who is responsible for the quality of the IT product being released, so I decided that this profession suits me 100%."

After a month of classes, right after the basic programming block, the novice tester decided to immerse herself in the professional IT sphere. Maria wrote a resume on hh.ru and began responding to testing vacancies.

Change of strategy led to success
While looking for a job, she asked employers about the possibility of an internship. Maria continued to study on the course and thought about what to do next. Then the most interesting thing happened. A couple of months later, the girl received an offer to do an internship with the possibility of further employment. She passed the entrance test at the IT company, where general knowledge of computer science, testing and logic were checked.


Maria did an internship, where she studied SQL, Linux, testing and more. She shared that the studies were intense with a lot of practical tasks.
Future plans
The girl completed the course and internship at the same time. The knowledge she gained during the course was useful for completing the internship and getting an invitation to work in the same company. Maria was hired as a software tester. Now she plans to develop in the IT field and gain new knowledge in the field of testing.

The mentor gave us real examples from the work of a tester, always supported us and encouraged us with kind words. I think I will return to Innopolis University to study automated testing."

Maria's desire and aspiration helped her change her professional field. She learned how to create bug reports, conduct manual regression testing, and mastered a new profession. This is taught in the Software Tester course from Innopolis University. A new intake starts in October. The course program has expanded in accordance with the requirements for a beginner tester.
