1. Monitor Data Usage:

Android:
Go to Settings > Data and Storage > Data Usage.
Here, you'll see a breakdown of your data usage for Mobile, Wi-Fi, and Roaming. You can also see detailed usage for media, messages, and calls.
iPhone:
Open Telegram and tap Settings at the bottom right.
Select Data and Storage > Data Usage.

Desktop:
Click the three horizontal lines (menu) in the top left corner.
Go to Settings > Advanced > Data and Storage > Network Usage.
This will show your data usage over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Roaming.
2. Reduce Data Usage:

Adjust Automatic Media Downloads: This is the most significant way to reduce data consumption. By default, Telegram automatically downloads media files.
Android & iPhone: Go to Settings > Data and Storage > Automatic Media Download. Here, customize settings for Using Mobile Data, Using Wi-Fi, and While Roaming. Disable auto-download for most or all media when using mobile data and roaming. You can choose to only auto-download photos or disable all automatic downloads.


Desktop: Go to Settings > Advanced > Data and Storage > Automatic Media Download. Customize settings for Wi-Fi and Roaming.
Enable Low Data Usage for Calls: This compresses audio during voice and video calls.
Android: Go to Settings > Data and Storage > Call Settings and toggle on Use Less Data for Calls.
iPhone: Go to Settings > Data and Storage. Under Voice Call, enable Low Data Mode.
Desktop: Go to Settings > Advanced > Data and Storage > Data Usage for Calls and select "Use less data".
Lower Media Quality for Sending: Reduce the quality of photos and videos you send.
Go to Settings > Data and Storage > Photo and Video Quality and set it to Low. Telegram will compress files before sending.
Disable Autoplay for Media: Prevent videos and GIFs from automatically playing.
