The pond at the Hortus Botanicus

In 2009 – an eternity ago, when Instagram didn’t exist yet – my obscure snapshot-of-the-day blog suddenly gained a large following. In this article, I look back on that moment: how I came to realize that you can reach an audience independently as a creative maker. And especially: how you can set up your online presence in such a way that you build a relevant feed and engage an audience.
My very first blog post was on the new platform Tumblr , in April 2009. I took a picture with my japan telegram data new cell phone of a woman and her daughter in the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam. And as is the case with Tumblr, I only included a very short description: 'The pond at the Hortus Botanicus'.
I decided to take a picture every day, as a kind of visual diary, and then post it on my blog with a short caption each time. Not because I thought I was such a good photographer, but mainly to force myself to look at my daily life with an open mind. The title of my blog became: 'A Life in Pictures'.
