Interview with a Chinese investor

Today, Marketingtochina interviewed M.Chen, who works at an investment firm in China. He prefers to remain anonymous, because he does not have official approval to speak on the record.

COULD YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND YOUR COMPANY, MR. CHEN?

Hello, I am Chinese and I have been working in the investment iceland phone number list since 2016. I have worked as a financial advisor for 2 years and now I work in an investment firm, which invests in 20-25 projects per year.

The total firm manages a fund of RMB 8 billion (approximately USD 1.2 billion), across its different RMB and USD funds. We are segmented by division, field, country. Our typical investment size ranges from $1 million to $5 million, with a maximum limit of $15 million per company.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN TO US WHAT YOUR JOB IS?

I am an investment manager, so I am checking projects, PPTs and BPs (business plans) and writing reports before making decisions. I am also looking for projects to invest in. Sometimes I meet and interview the owners or founders of the project, to better understand their vision and have a conversation with them.

HOW MANY PROJECTS DO YOU RECEIVE EACH YEAR AND HOW MANY DO YOU CHOOSE TO INVEST IN?

It's a difficult question, many are sure.

Our company receives around 5000 projects per year and I analyze 50-100, per year and we will invest around 20 projects per year in total.

WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS LIKE? What type of project are you looking for?

We have market criteria, profitability or growth rate, business model, risks, etc. And after writing the report, we will see which company is safer and better to invest in.

WHY DO YOU ANALYSE ONLY 50-100 PROJECTS? HOW DO YOU SELECT THEM?

The projects selected by our boss are our priority.

We will check if these projects have a future and many opportunities.

We also look at the legitimacy of the company, its financial situation. We do a background check on the founder, we want to know if they have an investment history. We want to make sure they are not scammers and that we can trust them.
