But the important thing is not only to know the irregular verb tenses, but also when you should use each one of them . So today we are going to review the rules.

Regular and irregular verbs in English
Let's start at the beginning: what is an irregular verb? Simply put , it is a verb that does not follow the general rules of conjugation.

Most English verbs are regular and follow very simple rules. Starting from the basic form (the infinitive), the third person present singular indicative is formed by adding an -s or -es at the end, the past and past participle forms add -ed and the continuous forms end in -ing.

However, in irregular verbs the past tense and participle do not follow these rules, either because they are different words ( do, did, done ) or because they are the same as the infinitive ( cut, cut, cut ). Therefore, we need to learn them by heart so as not to make mistakes.

When to use each of the columns
The first column is the basic form of the verb, the infinitive. The infinitive expresses the meaning of the verb in a general way, without temporal references.
