Windows could not start the Windows Update service on Local Computer

Well, recently someone reported this error on the official Microsoft forums. In this case, he received the following error when starting the Windows Update service.


Error 1058: The service cannot be started because it is disabled or does not have any enabled devices associated with it.

Fix Error 1069 The service did not start because the logon failed

If you are also facing this issue, here is how you can fix it.

Fix 1: Via the Services snap-in
1. Open the Services snap- in by running services.mscthe command.

2. Under Services, right-click the service that is experiencing this problem and select Properties.

3. In the properties sheet, set the service startup type to anything other than Disabled. For most Windows services, you can set it to Manual. However, if you are unsure, you can also set it to Automatic. Click Apply, then OK.
