Embarrassment at Falkenstrasse

Post by asimj1 »

NZZ editor-in-chief Eric Gujer brought his shotgun to the ready on Saturday - once again. The title of his editorial is a real stunner: "Switzerland does not need state media." Gujer takes aim at the SRG ( persoenlich.com reported ). Criticism is legitimate and important: the SRG has not done everything right in the past, of america rcs data course. A few key figures could have shown more empathy and humility. But that is not the point here. In his text, Gujer largely adopts the rhetoric and logic of the No-Billag initiators. From a political and journalistic point of view, this is questionable. He suggests that the people could vote yes on March 4th next year and that parliament would then find a creative way to implement the initiative. Either Gujer has not read the initiative text or he is playing poker .

As a complement to the blog post by Diego Yanez , the director of the Swiss School of Journalism, here is a reply to four points from Gujer's angry paper.

The SRG is a state broadcaster

Gujer was once a correspondent in Moscow. He knows full well that state broadcasters censor and only broadcast the opinions that are acceptable. Swiss radio and television, on the other hand, have no dependencies. The association structure of the SRG with its 24,000 members is typical for our country: the company belongs to the people, two of the nine board members are appointed by the Federal Council.
